Defective Detective
A downloadable game
Defective Detective was created for a games design course class, with a task of creating a prototype of a game inspired by Sega Genesis titles.
In this cyberpunk themed side scrolling shooter Contra: Hard Corps inspired prototype you play as Detective Riddle, an officer of the law in 2076. A crime syndicate began crawling from the dark and reeking havoc in the street, and you're not the type to sit back and watch. Taking matters into your own hands, you fight your way through the anarchy to the Kingpin of the operation, take him down and end the chaos.
Homing Missile the snipers, slide attack the enemies and climb along the bars as you make your way to the Final showdown.
Player Mechanic | Controls | Description |
Move | A, D | The character moves left (A) and right (D). This can be applied when the player is running, monkey bar climbing or jumping. |
Aim | W,A,S,D | The player can aim in 8 directions (up, down, left, right and the diagonals between them). |
Shoot | Left Mouse Button (hold for continual fire) | Will shoot the currently equipped weapon in the direction they are aiming. The player can shoot while running, crouching, jumping or hanging from a bar. |
Jump | Space | The character jumps into the air. They can jump from either a standing, running or hanging position. |
Crouch/drop from bars | C (hold) | The player will crouch and be able to shoot in the direction they are facing only. If the player is on a bar they will drop from it. |
Slide Attack | C+Space | The player will slide across the ground being invulnerable to attacks for a short time. This move will additionally do small damage to basic enemies. |
Monkey Bar Climb | When the player jumps near a grabbable bar they will automatically hold on to it. While holding onto the bar they can shoot in any direction or climb left or right, however they can not move while shooting. The player can let go by either jumping off the bar or pressing the crouch button to simply drop from the bar | |
Hold Ground | H (Hold) | The player will not move left or right while aiming their weapon allowing players to fire in a direction without moving. While the player is in this state, they deal slightly increased damage. |
Change Weapon | Q | Cycles between the machine gun and homing missile weapons. |
